IELTS Writing Task 1

The two maps illustrate the present and proposed development of Norbiton industrial area. The main changes are the relocation of factories, the introduction of a playground and shops, and the reduction of farmland.

In the current layout, the town is located south of a river, which runs horizontally across the top of the map. Below the river, there is a large area of farmland, stretching from west to east. Adjacent to the town, there are four factories, which are close to the river.

In the future development plan, the factories are moved further away from the river and the town, to the north-west corner of the map. This creates more space for a playground, which is added next to the farmland. The farmland itself is reduced in size, and some shops are built next to it, along the eastern edge of the map. The river and the town remain unchanged.

Overall, the planned development aims to improve the environment and the quality of life for the residents of Norbiton industrial area.

Band 8.5

The current and future layout of an industrial area in Norbiton are depicted in the two maps. The main differences are the relocation of factories, the addition of a playground and shops, and the shrinkage of farmland.

At present, the river flows across the top of the map, from west to east. Below the river, there is a vast area of farmland, occupying most of the land. The town is situated south of the farmland, and four factories are placed next to the town, near the river.

In the proposed development plan, the factories are relocated to the north-west of the map, away from the river and the town. This frees up some space for a playground, which is built next to the farmland. The farmland is also reduced in size, and some shops are constructed next to it, on the eastern side of the map. The river and the town do not change.

Overall, the future development plan shows a more organized and community-friendly layout of Norbiton industrial area.
