IELTS Writing Task 1

The floor plan compares the layout of Central Library 20 years ago and today. It shows that the library has undergone significant changes in terms of its design, facilities and services.

20 years ago, the library was divided into several sections for different types of materials, such as CDs, videos, computer games, adult fiction and non-fiction books, children’s books, and newspapers and magazines. There was also a reading room with tables and chairs in the centre of the library. The enquiry desk was located near the entrance and handled tickets, book returns and other queries.

Today, the library has a more modern and flexible layout, with areas for sofas, storytelling events, lecture rooms, self-service machines and a café. The adult fiction books are still near the entrance, but they have an information desk nearby. The children’s fiction books are also in the same place, but the other materials have been replaced by a computer room. All the reference books are now grouped together in one section. The library has also introduced new services, such as lectures, storytelling events and a café, to cater to the diverse needs and interests of the users.

In summary, the floor plan illustrates how Central Library has transformed from a traditional book-oriented library to a multifunctional learning centre over 20 years.

The floor plan shows the differences in the layout of Central Library between 20 years ago and today. It reveals that the library has made a lot of changes to improve its appearance, functionality and user experience.

In the past, the library had a conventional layout, with separate sections for various kinds of materials, such as CDs, videos, computer games, adult fiction and non-fiction books, children’s books, and newspapers and magazines. There was also a reading room with tables and chairs for the users to read or study. The enquiry desk was situated near the entrance and dealt with tickets, book returns and other issues.

In the present, the library has a more contemporary and dynamic layout, with areas for sofas, storytelling events, lecture rooms, self-service machines and a café. The adult fiction books are still close to the entrance, but they have an information desk next to them. The children’s fiction books are also in the same spot, but the other materials have been moved to a computer room. All the reference books are now located in one area. The library has also added new services, such as lectures, storytelling events and a café, to attract and satisfy the users.

In summary, the floor plan demonstrates how Central Library has evolved from a conventional book-based library to a versatile learning centre over 20 years.
