The line graph and the table compare the global water consumption in three different sectors and the water usage per person and irrigated land area in two countries in the year 2000.
It is clear that water consumption increased dramatically in all three sectors over the 100-year period, with agriculture being the most dominant user. Moreover, there was a significant disparity between Brazil and Congo in terms of population size, water consumption per person, and irrigated land area.
In 1900, water consumption was minimal across all sectors, ranging from 500 km³ to 100 km³. However, a steady increase is observed in agricultural water use, reaching nearly 3,000 km³ by 2000. Industrial use also rose considerably, especially after 1950, and reached about 1,000 km³ by the end of the century. Domestic use remained the lowest throughout the period, but still showed a gradual growth and reached around 500 km³ by 2000.
According to the table, Brazil had a population of 176 million people who consumed 359 m³ of water each on average and had an irrigated land area of 26,500 km² in 2000. In contrast, Congo had a much smaller population of 5.2 million people who consumed only 8 m³ of water each on average and had a negligible irrigated land area of 100 km² in the same year.
In summary, the graph and the table illustrate the increasing global demand for water and the unequal distribution of water resources among countries.

Sample Answer 2
Band 8.5
The graph and the table provide information on the global water use by sector and the water consumption in Brazil and Congo in 2000.
Overall, it can be seen that water consumption rose significantly in all three sectors from 1900 to 2000, with agriculture being the main consumer. Furthermore, there was a huge gap between Brazil and Congo in terms of population, water consumption per person, and irrigated land area.
In 1900, water use was low in all sectors, with agriculture using around 500 km³, industrial use around 200 km³, and domestic use around 100 km³. However, over the next 100 years, water use increased sharply in all sectors, with agriculture reaching almost 3,000 km³, industrial use reaching over 1,000 km³, and domestic use reaching around 500 km³ by 2000.
The table shows that Brazil had a large population of 176 million people who used 359 m³ of water each on average and had a substantial irrigated land area of 26,500 km² in 2000. On the other hand, Congo had a small population of 5.2 million people who used only 8 m³ of water each on average and had a minimal irrigated land area of 100 km² in the same year.
To sum up, the graph and the table highlight the growing global need for water and the unequal allocation of water resources among countries.
